Hi everybody,

do you know if OLSRD works on Google Nexus 7?
If yes with stock Android or Custom Android?
I read that it works with Custom Android, but there isn't which Custom
Android.

Thanks a lot to help me

You can compile Olsrd for Android with the Android NDK...

the more interesting question is if you manage to get adhoc-mode
running, which is a bit tricky on most phones/tablets.

No, this thread is fine...

so you already have compiled OLSRd for the Nexus 7... that is good news.

And you have already activated Adhoc mode, fine!

Can you check if you can ping between the two (or more) devices on the
Adhoc interface? To check if you have layer-2 connectivity?

Yea, the implicit question was can I manage adhoc network with nexus7?
In Serval project I found some patch for Nexus7.
Moreover, I compiled the lastest version of OLSRD, but when I pushed on my
samsung tab 7.0 it didn't work.
The adhoc mode was configured well (wlan0), but OLSRD didn't find the wifi
Interface. The configuration file is the same used on a laptop where it
worked well.
Maybe is better if I will open a new thread.
best

Hi Matteo,

This URL is the most current list of devices/handsets known to work with
the Mesh Tether app distributed by New America Foundation, which is based
on OLSRd.

https://code.commotionwireless.net/projects/commotion/wiki/Commotion_Android_Supported_Hardware

Known to work fully:

- HTC Desire running android 2.3
- HTC Wildfire running CyanogenMod 6.1.0
- HTC Sensation running ????
- Google Nexus One (stock 2.3.3), and *NOT* any newer Nexi
- Motorola Atrix 4G (stock 2.3.6)

Expected to work fully:

- Any HTC devices running 2.x (especially the Incredible)
- Other handsets that use the Broadcom BCM4329 driver bcm4329.ko

Reported to work, but are expected to be flaky:

- HTC myTouch 3G (kind of works)
- Samsung Tabs running Android 3.2
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 running stock 2.3.3 (works only sometimes)
- Motorola Droid/Milestone running CyanogenMod 7 (mostly works)

My expectation is that your Nexus 7 tablet will not do ad-hoc mode with its
stock firmware. Possibly with an alternate firmware like Cyanogenmod v7,
and more specifically if the tablet uses the bcm4329.ko driver for its wifi
chipset.

Unfortunately, devices shipped with AndroidOS v4.x are proving quite *
unreliable* in supporting adhoc mode, due to intentional, executive-level
decisions made at Google.

Ah no no, I compiled for a Samsung tab 7.0

The binary version it worked well on my Samsung tab 7.0 with Cyanogenmod
10.1 kernel 3.0.15.
The same version didn't work on same device but stock Android, I can see
the olsrd packet, but OLSRD didn't create the multihop table.

I compiled the latest version, but it cannot find the interface.

I found this
https://github.com/monk-dot/SPAN

For my tablet samsung 7.0 p6120 I avoid to use and modify wpa_supplicant
installing iwconfig and use it to connecti in adhoc mode.

But there are some tablets with broadcom that they cannot connect in adhoc
mode
The last time we tried, we could not put the Nexus 7 into Ad-hoc mode.
I've been wondering whether installing Ubuntu for Tablet on it will
enable Ad-hoc mode. Has anybody tried?
